Well if Lottie wasn't use to the doctors before she is use to them now!!! She has seen our family doctor twice (for a respiratory infection/ear infection) 4 different doctors at the International Adoption clinic, the Opthamologist (eye doctor), and the Ocularist ( prosthetic eye maker). All the appointments went fine.
At the Cincinnati Children's International Adoption Clinic last week she was evaluated by a Occupational therapist and it was found that her Language, Fine Motor, and Gross Motor were delayed quite a bit. Which we knew. Her Social/Emotional Development was her strongest point. Which we knew too, she loves to imitate us and things around the house come easiest to her.
The adoption clinic also took 4 vials of blood for test and we are waiting to get those results back. She also got a few immunizations, which she did not like very well!! Of coarse not!!!
The Opthmologist did not tell us anything we didn't know already, that she has microthalmia and that her other eye seems to be doing okay. , because she is not running into things etc... ???? He did not want to do an ultrasound of the eye to see how her vision is in each eye because she would have to be put under anaesthesia. He also said he did not think we should put her in glasses to protect the good eye until she was 4. Not 100% sure we agree with him on these issues so we may be finding another Opthamologist who is closer.
The Ocularist said that her underdeveloped eye is probably 75% developed. He said she probably does have some light perception in the eye, but that the eye is basically a ball of tissue, and that it stoped dev. in the womb. We are working on the different stages before she gets her prosthetic eye, but she should have it before I go back to school!
We go on Monday to meet a Social Worker at Cincinnati Childrens who was not at the last appointment. We are also getting her a kidney ultrasound and spinal x-ray as the kidneys and spine are two areas of concern with microthalmia patients. I believe that the kidneys and spine development are complete around the same time the cornea is developed in the womb. So it makes since to check these out since there is concern why the eye stopped dev.
She will go to see a Cranial Facial Team of specialist at Cincinnati Childrens May 6th to evaluate issues affecting her face from the microthalmia diagnoses. Its more of a precautions, not so much concerns.
We are also going to the Wee School at Shelby County DD next week to meet the team there! We are so excited to be working with them! Finally I am looking for a pediatric dentist to take a look at her teeth! So I am thinking by the time summer gets here we can take a deep breath and have all these appointments behind us!
Having been in China and now back to the States it makes me appreciate that the US has such good Health Care Opportunities!! Now if we could just have a little easier Insurance!! :) Please keep little Lottie in your thoughts and prayers as she endures more doctors visits next week.
Here are some more of what you really want!!! Pics!!!! Take Care and have a great Icy Week!!

Hi Kim,
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by our blog. I was happy to hear that you have an International Adoption clinic and that all of Lottie's appointments went well. We have appointments for Jon Paul at CHOP's IAHC, and he'll be seeing a pediactic opthamologist at Will's Eye Hosp. but I hadn't considered an ocularist. In order to get prosthetic, will they have to remove the underdeveloped eye? Just curious...
Still waiting on our TA... hope we hear something next week. We are planning to go to Our Lady of Lourdes chappel in Guangzhou. Maybe we'll get the chance to meet Fr. Peter. That would be terrific! Please keep in touch!
